Tamils in Finance (TiF) is a network of Canadian Tamil executives and emerging leaders in investment, commercial and retail banking, asset management, private equity, venture capital, and at other financial institutions. Our goal is to provide our members with a unique opportunity to mentor and support each other, purposefully grow their professional networks, and increase the collective influence of Tamils in Canada’s financial services sector. 

Canada Summer Jobs is an initiative of the Youth Employment Strategy, which is the Government of Canada’s commitment to help young people between the ages of 15 and 30, particularly those facing barriers to employment, get the information and gain the skills, work experience and abilities they need to transition successfully into the labour market.

Positions Summary

Reporting to their respective Portfolio Directors, the Communications Assistant and Database Assistant will provide a variety of marketing and network support. Successful applicants must be energetic, detail-oriented, and creative individuals. The ideal candidates will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations and the ability to manage competing priorities while ensuring tact and discretion on confidential matters.

Communications Assistant

• Provide administrative support to the Director of Public Affairs.
• Support marketing of all programs and events of the organization.
• Create engaging copy and rich media for content marketing.
• Provide support for social media community management and increase followership.
• Prioritize job tasks as appropriate in accordance with portfolio mandate.

Database Assistant

• Provide administrative support for the Director of Networking.
• Support all initiatives related to networking with peer organizations and sector stakeholders.
• Support planning and hosting of online networking events and programs for members.
• Develop and begin implementation of a broader community engagement strategy.
• Prioritize job tasks as appropriate in accordance with portfolio mandate.

Qualifications and Experience

• Must meet the criteria for a Canada Summer Jobs position for youth aged 15-30.
• Completed or pursuing post-secondary education in a related field or equivalent.
• Excellent English writing, research, analytical, and presentation skills.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
• Demonstrated strong critical thinking and analytical skills.
• Strong computer skills, MS Office, G Suite, WordPress, MailChimp, and social media channels.
• Experience working remotely and in self-directed manner in a fast-paced environment a plus.
• Fluency in a second language (Tamil, French) a plus.
• Must be legally able to work in Canada.
